About Janice

Thinking cannot be done for someone else. Instruction either requires it—or quietly replaces it.

Experience, Not Position

I’ve spent more than three decades teaching and working alongside educators across middle school, high school, and higher education. My work has been shaped by urban classrooms, teacher preparation, and instructional leadership—not as roles to move through, but as contexts that demanded careful judgment.

What Guides My Practice

Thinking can’t be done for someone else. Instruction either requires it—or replaces it. Teaching exists to expand students’ capacity to think independently, not to comply, imitate, or perform. What students can do on their own is the only evidence that matters.

What I’m Careful About

I don’t offer fixes, scripts, or shortcuts. I pay attention to alignment, responsibility, and what the work is actually asking of students. I’m cautious about support that feels helpful but removes the need for thinking.
